A man was hospitalised after a stabbing at a square once considered a “crime hotspot”.

Police were called to Gillett Square in Hackney to reports of a man stabbed on Thursday (May 2) at about 9pm.

A man, in his early 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Metropolitan Police said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

There were no arrests and policem say enquires are continuing.

Gillett Square was still cordoned off until the early afternoon today (May 3) after the knife attack.

In 2021, Hackney’s Dalston Jazz Bar director Robert Beckford called the area a crime hotspot, saying it has been ongoing for “maybe 15 years”.

At the time he said there were “several stabbings and lots of knives found in the square”.
