A comedy double bill at Kings Place later this month is bound to turn on the laughter, as musical trio Jonny and the Baptists and Colin Hoult take to the stage.
After barely more than a year together, the Islington-based 2013 New Act of the Year comedy competition finalists Jonny and the Baptists have rocketed to critical acclaim to become a regular fixture of the comedy circuit.
Jonny Donahoe sings and plays the guitar and piano in the sketch act and is accompanied by Paddy Gervers on guitar, while guest appearances will be made by a saxophonist, bass player, someone on dulcimer and a drummer.
“We’re going to performing the best of our Edinburgh 2012 show, which we’ve been touring, and King’s Place is essentially the last night of that tour,” said Mr Donahoe. “We’ve been to Leicester, Birmingham, Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter, Brighton and loads of other towns on the road and it’s great to finish the tour off in London.
“I live in Liverpool Road, so performing at Kings Place is a real honour – it’s such a great venue and is fantastic arts hub for our part of London, and, at the end of the night, I can walk home, which is excellent.”
Meanwhile, Colin Hoult’s dark trilogy of character comedy shows Carnival of Monsters, Enemy of the World and Inferno established him as an innovative, intelligent and fiendishly-talented comic performer, and earned him the lead role in the current BBC3 hit series Being Human.
The double bill is part of the Off With Their Heads comedy programme at Kings Place, 90 York Way on Thursday March 14 at 8pm.
Tickets cost £7 or £6 concessions.
