Luce e Limoni offers a genuine taste of Sicily

When you arrive at Luce e Limoni, its Italian name makes a lot more sense – there are plenty of paintings of lemons adorning the walls and lots and lots of lights.
The decorations are a nod to a glorious vision of Sicily, owner Fabrizio Zafarana’s motherland.
The food here embraces the native approach, using the best ingredients and letting the quality shine through with the minimum of fuss.
For starters, the seared king scallops with cream of cauliflower and anchovies, priced at £10.95, were exquisite.
The texture of the burrata - my favourite cheese , like a squishy mozzarella – partnered well with the crunchiness of the caponata siciliana, a kind of stew made with aubergine, celery and olives.
There’s plenty of seafood to be seen in the broad selection of pastas and risottos, reflecting the island’s geographical culinary influences.
If you fancy splashing out, the lobster spaghetti with toasted sesame seeds, brandy and cherry tomatoes is an indulgent choice, at £15.95.
There are lots of interesting and unusual dishes on the menu, one of them the basil ravioli with sea urchin and ricotta cheese which we plumped for was very reasonably priced at £10.95.
The fresh pasta was delicious, although the sea urchin was perhaps a bit too fishy for me but my friend loved it.
Desserts here are out of this world, home made like everything else on the menu.
The cannoli di ricotta e cioccolata is another Sicilian speciality. Shaped like cannelini pasta tubes, the crispy rolled casing is wrapped around the most delicious creamy filling.
We also loved the pistachio semifreddo ice cream, which came with a delightfully scented accompaniment of Sicilian melon jelly, Again prices are incredibly reasonable, with both priced at under £6.
The staff are polite and attentive, and when we visited on a Thursday night the place was buzzing, with clients filling every table.
This is Zafarana’s second restaurant, he already owns Fabrizio - named after himself - in St Cross Street nearby.
With extremely reasonable prices for its central London location in Gray’s Inn Road, Luce e Limoni offers an unpretentious and authentic taste of Sicily.
