Step back to the 1940s for a weekend of nostalgia at Hever Castle and Gardens on June 25th & 26th with ‘Hever’s Home Front’, which celebrates England’s Armed Forces during the Second World War and commemorates the 2016 Armed Forces Day.

Look out for re-enactors as they demonstrate what it would have been like to live and work in the county during the Second World War in this 1940s event.

Attractions include a tea dance tent and vintage stalls with antiques, toys, accessories and memorabilia.

Meet Winston Churchill and enjoy displays of period model boats and a grounded life-size model Hurricane while a RAF Spitfire flies past overhead (weather permitting). Come along in vintage dress and really enter the spirit of the era, with a best dressed competition each day. Other attractions throughout the day include an Airfix model workshop.

Visitors can find out more about one of the castle’s former owners William Waldorf Astor, the richest man in America who purchased Hever Castle in 1903, and his involvement in the war in an interactive exhibition in the Castle’s Astor Suite. Additionally, three pillboxes can be seen on the Hever Lake Walk where they were built to defend strategic crossing points and slow down any German advance.
