Young people were rewarded for their achievements in arts and culture, sports and overcoming adversity at the second annual Hackney Youth Awards.

More than 250 young people and their families attended a ceremony at Hackney Town Hall on Wednesday last week where Hackney mayor Phil Glanville handed over the 13 awards.

Nominations from youth workers and professionals working with young people were reviewed by an independent panel of their peers, who also helped organise the whole event.

Spacecraft engineer Luke Lucas gave a speech while members of Hackney Youth Parliament and E-Kidz performed dance routines.

Mr Glanville said he was proud of the young people who “put in a lot of hard work and time to give back to their local communities”.

“Their determination and commitment to the future of Hackney is inspiring and I hope to encourage even more people to get involved,” he added.
