Improvements have been made by Hackney’s sixth formers but figures from this year’s A-level results remain below the national average.

The borough has improved its percentage of A* to B grades to 48.4per cent (from 47.8pc) and A* to C grades to 75.3pc from (73.8pc), with the national figures standing at 52pc and 77.3pc respectively.

However there has been a dip in A* to A – from 20.1pc to 18.5pc – while the national provisional figures rose from 25.8pc to 26.2pc.

Cllr Anntoinette Bramble, deputy mayor of Hackney, said: “Huge congratulations to everyone who collected their results yesterday, and a big thank you to our brilliant teachers and school staff, as well as the friends and family who have supported our pupils through such an anxious time. Whatever they go on to do next, whether its university, an apprenticeship or work, I wish them well for the future.”
