The cyclist who was left fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry is still in hospital with “potentially life-changing” injuries.
The 23-year-old was knocked off his bike just after 11pm on Thursday outside the Kingsland Shopping Centre in Kingsland High Street, Dalston.
He suffered chest injuries and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Witness Beau Butterfield, who saw the aftermath, told the Gazette he had seen a “mangled” bike and the man’s trainers and clothes lying in the taped off road.
At the time police said the cyclist had collided with a car, but today it emerged the crash had in fact involved a lorry.
A spokesman for the Met said: “He remains in hospital and his condition is described as serious but stable.”
It was the second accident involving a cyclist that day in the space of 250m.
The first crash happened at 9am when a bus collided with a rider outside the Rio Cinema.
Despite photos from the scene showing his bike under the front of the bus, the man escaped with “a few cuts and bruises”, according to Scotland Yard.
No one was arrested for either collision.
Witnesses are asked to call 020 8597 4874 or 101.
