Iconic football boozer The Albion has closed down – and will be replaced by a gastropub serving “posh fish and chips”.
The pub in Goldsmiths Row, Haggerston, has been an outpost for West Brom fans in London for the last 20 years and became one of the capital’s best known venues to watch games.
But the last pint was pulled on June 4 after the venue was taken over by Remarkable Pubs, which also runs The Reliance in Shoreditch and The Shakespeare in Stoke Newington.
Regulars tweeted to say they had taken some of the iconic memorabilia that filled the walls before it closed.
The venue will be leaving the Black Country behind with its new incarnation – Remarkable says it will become The Virgin Queen, a collaboration with The Fish House serving “posh fish and chips, brilliant beer and great wine that’ll knock your socks off.”
