Every week, we take to the streets to find a start-up business right here in Hackney. This week, we discovered an ethical unisex streetwear brand.
Boyfriend and girlfriend Maximilian Pawley and Katie Lopez are hoping to crowd fund £6,000 to finance Bosky Rigs’ spring collection.
The pair - who met at school in Wales - decided fashion brands needed to put more effort into sustainability when they set up the fashion label whose HQ is in Holywell Row, Shoreditch.
Their hoodies, T-shirts, hats and caps are made from organic cotton grown on sustainable plantations, and transported to a wind-powered factory in India by camel.
Max told the Gazette: “The name is a play on our brand values. ‘Bosky’ is a rare old school English adjective, and describes an area of dense wild natural beauty. ‘Rig’ is a slang term used to describe someone’s outfit.
“When used together we feel that they describe our mission to bring awesome quality sustainable and organic materials into the urban fashion scene, without giving off the ‘hippie hippie’ vibes usually associated with organic produce and sustainability.”
A £2,000 donation will get you three of their ‘signature’ Sabretooth sweaters. See boskyrigs.co.uk.
