The Gazette hunts high and low each week to bring you news of the most interesting and unusual new businesses in Hackney. This week we speak to the founder of Forest Road Brewery.
In July the Gazette asked whether brewing was Hackney’s fastest growing trade, with a fifth of the capital’s beer businesses based here.
Now yet another one has now popped up – Forest Road Brewery - which despite its name is actually based in London Fields.
Pete Brown, 31, from Boston, has come “full circle” after starting out at London Fields Brewery four years ago when he moved to the UK.
He has since worked at Camden Brewery, and while his own company is named after the road in which he lives, it is next door to Netil House in Westgate Street.
He doesn’t believe in quirky, fruity beer flavours: “When you talk about brewing from a professional standpoint anyone can put raspberry in the liquid and it tastes great because raspberries taste great – but to make it taste great on its own is a skill,” he said.
He is aiming to open a bigger brewery next year.
