Young people with disabilities will shortly have the chance to take up sporting activities at a new club in the Olympic Park.

Community Club Hackney, launching next month, will host weekly sports sessions with qualified coaches at the park’s Copper Box Arena, dubbed the ‘box that rocks’ during the 2012 Olympics.

Participants will be able to take part in a range of sports, including sitting volleyball, judo, racket sports, athletics and fencing. Cllr. Jonathan McShane, Cabinet member for health, social care and culture, said: “These sessions are designed to develop confidence, team-building and communication skills through structured sport sessions, so participants are able to get active but have fun and make new friends at the same time.”

Sessions are delivered by Disability Sports Coach (DSC) in partnership with Hackney Council and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The DSC has provided coaching, sports events and training to over 60,000 people with disabilities across the UK.

The activities will take place every Thursday starting next week between 10:30am and noon.

Attendance costs £2.50 per person and no booking is required.
