Residents in London Fields are requesting donations from the community to build a green space on their estate.
Occupants of Morland Estate, in Richmond Road, are leading a grassroots crowdfunding campaign, with help from charity Trees for Cities, to transform the neglected area at the centre of their estate into a garden.
The project needs a cash boost of £10,000 to become a reality.
Money will go towards building and maintaining plant beds, a 10-tree community orchard and a natural play area aimed at engaging children nature.
Residents hope that the garden will help bring together tenants from diverse backgrounds and those who are isolated and elderly.
The deadline to reach the target is October 20.
If the target isn’t met all pledges will be refunded.
