As part of moves to make Hackney one of London’s cleanest boroughs, the council are launching a consultation to hear residents’ views.
The four-year air quality action plan sets our how the council hopes to improve air quality in the future.
Measures to reduce harmful emissions of nitrogen dioxide include reducing pollution at junction hotspots, tackling idling taxis and delivering cycling and walking campaigns.
People can take part in a survey to share their opinions.
Other areas of the consultation includes cutting children’s exposure to poor air quality; reducing the Council’s impact on air quality; and levying building projects to help pay for cleaner air initiatives.
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “Nitrogen dioxide exceeds national air quality guidelines in many parts of the borough.
“Air quality knows no boundaries and it’s up to all of us to make a difference. We need to work together to help make Hackney one of the cleanest, greenest and most attractive places to live, work and visit in London.
“This forward-thinking action plans sets out an important framework on how we can reduce the amount of nitrogen dioxide emissions which impact on people’s health.
“Take part in this survey and help shape a better, cleaner future for Hackney.“
