A lively football tournament saw the Cardinal Pole High School team emerge triumphant following a nail biting ‘”sudden death” penalty shoot-out.
The match was part of the annual Well Street Common Festival, which saw the public park brought alive as hundreds of residents flocked to hear music, and take part in grass track cycle racing and capoeira Brazilian martial arts demonstrations, as well as parade their pooches in a dog show.
Derek Smith, who founded the football tournament 13 years ago which is now sponsored by Sanctuary Housing and organised by Y2K, said: “The festival is an event that everyone in our area looks forward to, it is a real tribute to resident engagement.”
