More than 1,000 people packed into the Hackney Empire as sporting stars were rewarded for their achievement at the eighth annual Hackney Sports Awards.
The sell-out event was compered by comedian Kat B who was joined by the World Athletics bronze medallist, Hackney athlete Margaret Adeoye.
Those commended included young people who have gained national recognition, amazing coaches, teachers and volunteers and people who have overcome real difficulties to get more active.
Hackney sports person of the year, in the under 16 category, climber James Pope, said: “I’m pleased because the award means climbing is becoming more recognised, and hopefully this will mean more people join up and climb. I was surprised but also very proud to win this award.
