Bakre Yesufu, 47, of Rossington Street, Clapton was kiled at 4pm on July 10.
Police were called to reports of an injured man on the pavement in Upper Clapton Road, close to the junction with Rossington Street, where Mr Yesufu was suffering from a serious head wound.
He was taken to the Royal London Hospital in a critical condition – but he died on July 28.
Det Sgt Mark Chard from the investigation team said: “The area where the assault occurred would have had a number of people in it going about their business and we would urge anyone who was there, that hasn’t already, to contact us and tell us what they saw or heard.
“Whatever it may be could be significant to our investigation.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8358 0300 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Two 19-year-old men – Christopher Hodge and Don Sebastian Hoo-Lawson, both of Mount Pleasant Hill, Clapton – have been charged with grievous bodily harm.
Officers will be returning to the scene tomorrow between 3pm and 5pm handing out appeal leaflets, speaking to people and appealing for witnesses and information.
