Hackney Museum was one of the only ones in London which didn’t experience a drop in visitor numbers during the Olympic Games.
While most of the big names like the National Gallery and the British Museum saw dramatic falls in visitor numbers, some seeing as many as 40 per cent fewer visitors in the first week of August compared to last year, the museum in Reading Lane bucked the trend.
It saw an increase of 11 per cent of visitors in June and 25 per cent in July, while takings at the museum shop almost doubled.
The museum’s Black History Month exhibition opens on October 2 and runs until January 12.
