Homerton residents sprinted, jumped and hula-hooped their way through Saturday, as they held their own sports celebration in honour of the ‘greatest show on earth’ happening right on their doorstep.
Over 200 locals turned out to party on the Kingsmead estate, getting stuck into track, shot put and standing jump competitions, as well as enjoying a Caribbean barbeque feast and live music from local DJ Keith Mckend.
A medal presentation for the winning athletes formed the closing ceremony on a wonderful day for the community.
In the spirit of teamwork, the event was hosted by Christchurch on the Mead, in partnership with Sanctuary Housing, Hackney Marsh Partnership and the Council’s Hackney 2012 department.
