Islington and Hackney Councils are cooperating over an alternative cycle route in Hoxton to relieve pressure on the Regent’s Canal towpath.
A dangerous crossing with Poole Street and New North Road, near Gainsborough Studios, is deterring cyclists from using the road route, and the councils will work with Transport for London, to relocate a nearby set of traffic lights.
Ian Shacklock, Chair of the Friends of Regent’s Canal group believes an alternative street-level route for cyclists would be a better solution than widening the narrow towpath on the canal, which is being considered by British Waterways and is worrying boaters.
