The hidden world of Hackney’s Kurdish community will be depicted in a film called Kingsland, written by Tony Grisoni.
The 59-year old who lives in the borough and also created Channel 4’s Red Riding trilogy was inspired by a true story of how the north London Kurd community challenged local crime lords.
The film project is part of Film London’s Microwave initiative, which is designed to give new talent the chance to make full-length movies on a micro-budget of 120,000.
Rapper Plan B’s movie debut, iLL Manors was also given backing.
