Doubts over Mayor standing again quashed
BORIS Johnson has confirmed he will stand in the 2012 London Mayoral elections.
The Tory mayor swept to power in 2008 ousting Labour’s Ken Livingstone and had been tipped to stand down after only one term.
But these rumours were proved false when Mr Johnson said he was planning to run again in 2012.
The Mayor said: “I have always said this is the best job in the world, and I have been extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to do it, working alongside fantastic people serving the best big city in the world.
“It would not be appropriate for me to get into the politics of this decision but I do feel that we have achieved a lot together over the last two years and I know that you are all working tirelessly to deliver wonderful projects over what’s left of this term.
“London is on course to see off the recession and deliver the best Olympics ever, welcoming the world to our dynamic, creative, colourful and cosmopolitan capital.
“I cannot imagine a greater prize than to be with you in City Hall for that unique occasion.”
