The world’s only all-female Slade tribute band have kicked off Christmas with a video shoot in Hoxton.

Slady have been performing the songs of the 70s glam rock outfit since 2018.

This year, Danie Cox decided her local pub, the Wenlock Arms, has the perfect '70s aesthetic for their music video for Merry Xmas Everybody.

The act was born when Danie, who once supported Slade at a charity event, approached friend Wendy Solomon with a “crazy idea”.

They adopted the stage names Gobby Holder and Jem Lea, and were later joined by Davina Hill and Donna Powell – takes on the Slade line-up of Noddy Holder, Jim Lea, Dave Hill and Don Powell.

Danie said Slady have down well, and Wendy said: “There’s been no kickback. People have really bought into the all-female aspect."

They said Slade drummer Don Powell described them as "fantastic" when he saw them at a fan convention in 2019.

Suzan Holder, wife of frontman Noddy, also endorses the band. They played her book launch and featured in a column she wrote for Cheshire Life magazine.

Wendy said: “A lot of the proper hardcore fans who have been there since the early '70s, they’ve embraced us completely. It’s amazing.”

Some of those fans feature in video filmed on Monday.

Danie said: “It’s been brilliant to film it. The community has really pulled together.”

The community extends beyond the UK, and last month the band performed at a blues festival in Norway.

The video for Merry Xmas Everybody is out Youtube and Facebook on December 1, and Slady will be performing at The Water Rats in King’s Cross on December 9.
