A blaze which broke out at a Dalston Lane block was tackled by around 80 firefighters on Tuesday.
A total of 12 fire engines attanded the fire in a four-storey building.
A flat on the second floor and a flat on the third floor were damaged.
Station Commander Chris Swallow said: "Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the top floor of the flat.
"Dalston Lane is currently closed whilst we work to make the scene safe. This is causing congestion so please avoid the area where possible."
The brigade was called at 9.20am and the fire was under control by 12.45pm.

Firefighters from Homerton, Stoke Newington, Leyton, Islington and other surrounding fire stations attended.
The cause of the fire will be investigated.
