Nominations for civic awards recognising significant contributions made by Islington's community have opened.

The 2023 Mayor’s Civic Awards and Ben Kinsella Award give residents a chance to commend people who make a big difference to life in the borough.

The Mayor’s Civic Awards aims to celebrate unsung heroes in Islington, while the Ben Kinsella Award is a youth award that recognises a young person aged 18 or under.

Islington Council is urging residents to nominate someone who has gone above and beyond in one of the following areas – helping make Islington greener, nurturing its children and young people, supporting safety within its communities, supporting residents through the cost-of-living crisis and volunteering.

Nominations can be submitted on the council’s website and will close on January 23 at 5pm.

Mayor of Islington, Cllr Marian Spall, said: “These awards are a way for us all to celebrate the selfless people who care about their local community and work to improve it, helping us to make Islington a more equal borough.

“If you know someone who deserves some recognition, we would love to hear about them.”

Winners will be announced at an event at Islington Assembly Hall on March 14.
