A murder investigation is underway after a woman was stabbed in Stoke Newington.

Emergency services were called at about 10.15pm on yesterday (December 15) to reports of an unresponsive woman at an address in Rectory Road.

Police officers and paramedics found a 28-year-old woman with stab injuries, Scotland Yard said.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A crime scene remains in place at the address while the Met continues its investigation.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.

Det Chf Insp Mark Rogers said: “This is an incredibly sad incident and my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.

"I want to reassure them and residents who will be shocked by what has happened in their community, we are working hard to establish what has happened.

"Anyone who witnessed anything out of the ordinary or has any information about this incident should contact police as soon as possible.”
