Across London, there are thousands of street names, from Oxford Street, Abbey Road, Baker Street and of course, Downing Street to name just a few.

But amongst all the well-known tourist destinations, there are some lesser-known streets that although aren't well known for their offerings, they are noted for their unique titles.

Some borrow phrases which in today's world might gain a giggle or two with terms like 'Dick' or 'Cock' commonly used.

However, back when the streets were named, the meaning behind them was much more literal.

Such as, Cock Lane was known for being the only street in London licensed for prostitution back in the 13th Century, according to A London Inheritance.

Hackney Gazette:

The list offers a mix bag of surprising names, including Trump Street in the City of London which back in 2016 gained popularity following Donald Trump's presidential win in the USA.

But the street has no connection to Trump but is instead believed to have gained its name from being the home of Trumpet markers in the capital according to Lookup London.
Hackney Gazette:

Potentially the most well-known name on the list, Cockfosters also gains a laugh or two from folk unknown to the area.

But much like fellow streets on the list, the north London spot gains its name from much more innocent beginnings.

Back in the 15th century, the area's forest was protected by foresters, which 'cock' comes from the old word for leader, seeing the creation of Cockfosters, according to Exploring London.
