A tree to mark the 90th anniversary of a housing trust that provides “genuinely affordable” homes for the people of Hornsey has been planted by MP Catherine West.
The katsura sapling was placed in Hornsey’s Priory Park with a commemorative plaque about Hornsey Housing Trust.
“The need for social housing has never been so stark,” the Hornsey and Wood Green MP said. “The trust maintains genuinely affordable homes to people who need them.”
All tenancies are at social rent for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Its sheltered housing includes the distinctive Margaret Hill House at Crouch End and Abyssinia Court in Hornsey.
Housing Trust deputy chair Ian Roberts said: “The longevity of the trust helping people through the decades shows the enduring benefits of being a small, community-based provider of social housing.
“Yet we work to meet the 21st century challenges of building safety, net zero, affordability, developing new homes and an ageing population.”
The trust was set up in 1933 to provide safe homes for the elderly and the vulnerable in society. It runs 400 properties, most in the N8 postcode area.
