A teenager with autism has praised the “incredible support” he received from teachers after scoring top marks in his A-levels.

Calvin Weise, 18, from Hackney, has had additional support from teachers at Haggerston School in Hackney from the moment he arrived in Year 7.

The 18-year-old has now achieved an A* in English, an A in sociology and B in religious studies and will go on to to study politics and sociology at Queen Mary University.

He said: “The teachers have been absolutely tireless in their support.

"Our teachers are very kind and supportive but also incredibly knowledgeable about their subjects.

“I want to thank them all for their wonderful support of me through the seven years I have been at this school.”

Haggerston School headteacher Cira Emmerson said: “We are all so incredibly proud of Calvin.

“He has overcome significant social and academic barriers to achieve very strong results.

“He has made incredible progress since starting with us in year 7.

“Much of it is down to his tenacity but huge credit also goes to staff here who have worked hard with him from day one.”
