Police seized more than £30,000 worth of crack and cocaine after eight men were flushed out by a patrol in a Hackney estate.

According to Homerton Safer Neighbourhoods team, officers and council enforcement officers were in the Frampton Park estate on October 6 after reports of gang-related activities and complaints that women felt unsafe.

While patrolling, three council officers and two police officers on bicycles spotted eight men in a stairwell.

The men fled when they saw the patrol, with three attempting to put an object through a letterbox.

Another reportedly jumped onto a roof surrounded by barbed wire and dropped something that later turned out to be a knife.

After more police arrived, a search of the block was carried out.

Officers discovered 18 shotgun shells, a 150cm machete and four large bags of crack and cocaine.

The Class A drugs have since been estimated to have a street value of more than £30,000.

One person in his 20's was arrested by police on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Another, who was found hiding on a roof, was issued with an anti-social behaviour (ASB) warning.

Sergeant Mo Uddin said: “This is the second big find of Class A in the past two months in the Frampton Park Estate, the first find was estimated to have a value of around £15k.”

“The continued seizure of drugs and weapons will make our neighbourhoods safer.

“In partnership with the council we are tackling crime, ASB, and taking action on concerns raised by the local community in the Homerton sector.

“We hope some of the positive results detailed here provides reassurance to our residents and we intend for this work to continue.”

“I encourage local people to get in touch with me and my team if they have concerns or have seen anything they would like to speak to us about.

“It’s my priority to understand local resident and business owners concerns so my team can proactively work to prevent or solve crime.”

Other items seized by police include small quantities of cannabis, a grinder, an e-scooter, an e-bike and two pedal bikes.
