Around 800 homes in Hackney were left without power late last night.

Engineers from UK Power Networks were called out to Orsman Road just after 8.30pm yesterday (November 2).

An underground cable had developed a fault, causing power outages.

Hackney Council has since confirmed that around 800 homes in the area were affected by issues with their electricity supply.

Hackney Police also posted to X to say that they were aware of an “electricity outage” at New Era Estate.

The council said that UK Power Networks had restored electricity to homes at around 11.15pm.

A council spokesperson said: "While the outage was dealt with by UK Power Networks, council emergency planning officers visited people living in the affected area to check on their welfare.

"Anyone suffering a power cut can report it by calling the freephone 105 number which will connect them directly to their local supplier.

“We would also encourage anyone needing extra help to sign up for the UK Power Networks Priority Services Register to get additional support in the event of a power cut."

More information on the priority register can be found here. People can call for free on 0800 169 9970 and a call advisor can help register you over the phone.

A spokesperson for UK Power Network said: "Power was restored in stages to customers during the evening. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
