A man has been arrested after a woman died in a stabbing during a gas explosion in Stoke Newington.

Police have launched a murder investigation this morning (June 17) after a gas explosion at a home on Dumont Road at 4.51am.

Officers were originally called to reports of someone trapped inside an address.

A woman, 46, was found inside the property with stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was sadly declared dead at the scene.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder. He was taken to hospital with slash wounds where he currently remains.

His condition is not life-changing or life-threatening.

Two children, seven and nine, have also been taken to hospital as a precaution but are not believed to have been inside during the time of the explosion.

Stoke Newington Church Street had been closed this morning (June 17).

The road reopened both ways at 9.40am.
