A "beautiful" new mosaic sign for Stoke Newington Common has been officially opened.
Celebrating the area’s history and wildlife, the sign highlights its past as common land, its ecological value, and its Roman connections.
It was created by the award-winning Hackney Mosaic Project and commissioned by the Stoke Newington Common User’s Group (SNUG), a volunteer group dedicated to improving and promoting the common.
A spokesman for SNUG said: "SNUG aims to enhance the common and ensure local people can enjoy precious green space in our densely populated area."
The mosaic also reflects the area’s deeper history, including evidence of Stone Age settlement through flint tools found nearby and now housed in the British Museum.
SNUG has spent the past 25 years planting trees and flowers and organising community events to support the common.
The official opening took place at 1pm on Thursday, December 18.
It was officially opened by the Mayor.
