British Citizen Award presented to Londoner at Palace

Tskenya-Sarah Frazer, from Hackney, was among 26 exceptional individuals honoured with a British Citizen Award (BCA) at the Palace of Westminster.

The presentation happened on January 22, when Tskenya was given the BCA Medal of Honour for Services to Community.

For 10 years, Tskenya has been a driving force in her inner-city community. As an active organiser, Tskenya has been a key supporter of local food banks, especially Precious Lives Food Bank.

This food bank serves more than 100 people each week, which adds up to over 5,000 food packages in the past two years.

But Tskenya's volunteering goes far beyond food distribution. She fundraises, plans cultural trips for the young and elderly, and lobbies with local partners and councillors.

She does this to make sure support is lasting, and whole families are connected with wraparound services.

She is passionate about diversity and inclusion, actively breaking down barriers and encouraging understanding across cultural, ethnic, and social divides.

For 10 years, Tskenya has worked with Hackney police and Hackney Council to promote safety as chair of the local Tenants and Residents Association, fighting for transparency, accountability, and safer neighbourhoods.

The presentation, hosted by radio presenter Konnie Huq, was attended by BCA patrons Dame Mary Perkins, founder of Specsavers, and The Lord Mott OBE. Representatives from BCA supporters, Specsavers, Places for People, Novus Property Solutions, and Aldermore Bank were also there.

Dame Mary said: “Tskenya is a true unsung hero and a shining example of what it means to be a community champion.

"Their positive impact embodies real citizenship and shows just how powerful local action can be.”

After the ceremony, winners enjoyed an open-top Lap of Honour tour taking in some of Westminster’s sights.
