A Hackney mum whose daughter has sickle cell disease raised over £1,200 running a half marathon for a charity that provides a specialist nurse.
Emmy Arthur completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon in two hours, 49 minutes, and 35 seconds to support Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
Her daughter is supported by the charity and its network of Roald Dahl Nurse specialists.
Sickle cell disease is one of the charity’s areas of specialism, which affects an estimated 300 babies born each year. The charity works to expand its network of nurses for children with lifelong conditions.

Ms Arthur said: "The charity brings so much hope, courage, and support to families like mine who are navigating the challenges of their child’s illness.
"Their work is vital, and they rely on fundraising to keep changing children’s lives in such meaningful ways."
Sophie Fanning-Tichborne, director of fundraising and communications at the charity, said: "As we celebrate the charity’s 35th anniversary, we are working to establish even more marvellous nurses who support children with serious, complex, lifelong conditions, and sickle cell is one of our specialisms.
"Every penny goes towards that work – and Emmy raised over £1,200 on Sunday.
"Stories like hers go a long way to raise awareness of what we do and why it matters so much."
Roald Dahl Nurses specialising in this condition work to support children with sickle cell and their families, as well as helping people – including their own hospital teams – better understand the condition, the serious complications it can cause and the inequalities that still must be addressed.
The charity offers a variety of fundraising events and races for the public to get involved.
