A veteran Stoke Newington cyclist has been branded a national champion for his age group, after competing in a gruelling 35-mile race across the Northumberland moors.
Norman Bright, 74, who lives in Ajex House in East Bank entered The League International (TLI) Cycling National Championships on September 11.
He walked away with the gold medal and National Championship jersey in the over 70s category, and was also awarded a special trophy in recognition of his exploits and past service as secretary of the TLI London and Home Counties region.
“It was truly a horrific day with gale force winds and many riders got blown off the road, but Norman stuck at it and completed the course which was used in the recent National Championships of Great Britain,” said William Thompson, TLI secretary for Northumbria.
