Voters in Hackney voted overwhelmingly to remain in the European Union, with 78 per cent wanting to stay.

While 83,398 voted to remain, there were just 22,868 voters in Hackney who wanted a Brexit.

David Cameron announced his resignation as Prime Minister this morning after the historic EU referendum delivered a marginal backing for Brexit.

Most London boroughs voted to remain in the EU - bucking the national trend, which saw the Leave campaign triumph after stacking up 52 per cent of the votes.

There was a 65.2 per cent voter turnout in Hackney, compared to 72.2 per cent nationally.
