Hackney Community College (HCC) is still waiting to verify its stats, but many pupils are celebrating success stories today.
Kamraj Onik went through school without his dyslexia being noted, but this was picked up at HCC in Falkirk Street, Hoxton, and he was given the full support he needed to achieve an impressive A*, A and B in sociology, business and media.
The 19-year-old who had no idea that he had dyslexia, said “My tutor Sulliman was the driving force for my success. He is the best teacher ever.”
Kamraj already has an offer to study information management with business at university and as a result of his impressive grades he is exploring further options.
Werda Hersi, 19, came to HCC sixth form from Central Foundation Girls’ school and is off to study pharmacy at Kings College after securing an A in chemistry and Bs in maths and law. She said: “I got a lot of support from my teachers and I really enjoyed studying law. My law teacher was amazing.”
