Stoke Newington School and Sixth Form proved it is going from strength to strength after its A-level results improved for the fourth year in a row.

The gleaming purpose built school in Clissold Road, which was built in 2010, achieved a 99 per cent pass rate for A-levels.

Nearly half the pupils are eligible for free school meals and have English as an additional language. T

There were many happy faces as students opened their results today.

Alice Simpson, 18, of Walsingham Road, Clapton was ecstatic after her results exceeded her expectations.

The jubilant student achieved three A*s in history, English literature and psychology and is now considering reapplying to Oxford University.

“I feel very shocked”, she said. “I was not expecting that at all. I was predicted to get three As but I did not think I was going to get even that.”

Meanwhile, there were a few hairy moments for some students this morning as they did not achieve the grades they needed.

Kingsley Davies, 18, needed an A and two Bs in his A-levels to win a place to study economics at his first place choice Sussex University. However, he obtained two Bs and a C in economics, sociology and media studies.

Fortunately, the university has accepted him despite this. He said: “I was disappointed about my results but happy at getting into university.”

Jake Morgan-Stead, 18, of needed three As to get into Oxford University, but got an A*, A and B in History, English and Drama respectively.

The keen history enthusiast was on tenterhooks as he phoned Oxford to see if he would still have a space.

“My heart was racing. I felt so relieved when they said yes”, he said: “I really wanted to got to Oxford. I wanted it more than anything.”

Headteacher Annie Gammon said: “We are delighted and proud to see these brilliant achievements from all our sixth form students in both A level, AS level and vocational courses. They, and their teachers, have worked hard and deseve this success.”
