A social media appeal to find a dog that went missing in Haggerton three weeks ago has gone viral, after being shared by comedian Sue Perkins.

Five-year-old wire fox terrier Rosie escaped a secure area next to the Kingsland Basin on November 15, when she followed a workman out the gate.

Her owner Marnie Collins, who lives on a canal boat there, is frantic with worry and has barely slept a wink since.

She told the Gazette: “Last night I got in at midnight, and I couldn’t sleep, so I went out again at 1am. It’s like grieving for someone, but you don’t know. It’s breaking my heart.”

There have been several sightings of Rosie in Islington and Hackney, and people have reported back she is dirty and scared.

Marnie hopes someone who spots Rosie will alert her and she can try and entice her back.

“Dogs go into feral mode after a week, apparently, and they are scared of humans,” said Marnie. “I’ve been told she might not even respond to my voice, so I will need to sit down and turn my back a little bit and pretend to eat food and drop it, and hopefully she will come nearer and start to trust me.”

Marnie has mounted an appeal on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and has been inundated with messages of support since comedian Sue Perkins retweeted her plight to her million plus followers.
