Youngsters played games like apple bobbing at an event to celebrate the forgotten apple varieties of England’s orchards at Hackney City Farm.
Apple Day also saw storytelling, juicing and an apple pie workshop laid on at the farm in Goldsmith’s Row, Haggerston.
Apple Day was founded 23 years ago by charity Common Ground to focus on the hundreds of native apple varieties in the UK which are ignored in favour of a handful of supermarket-friendly strains, which are often flown in from overseas.
