As things stand, Spurs are not likely to sign anyone this month, but as the deadline draws closer, do not be surprised if they makes a late move

Mauricio Pochettino once again insisted Spurs were unlikely to bring anyone in during the January transfer window last weekend and with the deadline now only seven days away it appears the case.

All deals will need to be completed by 11pm on January 31, which is far from ideal for Tottenham Hotspur and various other Premier League clubs with Manchester United set to visit Wembley Stadium on that very evening.

Talk at the beginning of January surrounded youngsters Ryan Sessegnon and James Maddison and whether the north Londoners could secure deals for the pair.

Fulham quickly shut down any talk of their 17-year-old departing and Norwich City did the same with both clubs pushing for the play-offs in the Championship.

It didn’t stop Tottenham doing other business with Georges-Kevin Nkoudou signing a loan deal with Burnley.

Teenage prodigy Marcus Edwards also departed the club, linking up with Norwich for the rest of the campaign on loan.

Cameron Carter-Vickers was recalled from his loan at Sheffield United as well, but the very next day ended up signing with Ipswich Town until the end of the season – again on loan.

Transfer talk then centred around two wingers based in France with Bordeaux’s key man Malcom linked with a switch to London.

Arsenal were also understood to be interested in the Brazilian, but Gus Poyet, the new manager of the Ligue 1 club, revealed on Monday the 20-year-old would not be going anywhere during this transfer window.

With Bordeaux in a relegation battle, they will be looking to the ex-Corinthians ace to continue his fine form and keep them up.

Although Malcom almost certainly won’t end up at Spurs this month, he will no doubt be pursued by the club again in the summer.

The other player currently plying his trade in Ligue 1 and linked with a switch to the capital in England is Lucas Moura.

Moura, another Brazilian, is surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain with Unai Emery recently revealing he can leave.

It seems unlikely he will move to Tottenham in the next seven days though, unless Daniel Levy and Pochettino decide they need to do business or a good deal becomes available.

Other clubs all over the globe have registered an interest in Moura, but if one of Real Betis, Sevilla, United or Arsenal can’t strike an agreement with PSG, Spurs may be able to force a transfer through in the final days of the transfer window.

As things stand, Tottenham are not likely to sign anyone this month, but as the deadline draws closer, do not be surprised if they makes a move for Moura.

Paris Saint-Germain clearly want the winger off their wage bill and that may play into the hands of Spurs and their chairman.
