Aaron Ramsey is confident that Arsenal will maintain their recent good form to finish in the top four

Aaron Ramsey believes Arsenal have the momentum to win the race for the Champions League places despite being held by Everton at the Emirates on Tuesday night.

The Gunners saw their five-game winning run ended by the goalless draw, and are now relying on London rivals Spurs and Chelsea to drop points to finish in the top four.

However, Ramsey was in upbeat mood and said: “Overall it was important for us not to lose this game and keep our unbeaten run going. Chelsea and Tottenham still have to play each other. Teams are going to drop points so we are still positive and are confident that we can finish in the top four.

“We always knew that this week was going to be a big week for us and we’ve got four points out of two games so far.

“We are still unbeaten in a load of games and hopefully we can finish the week off strongly and get a win at Fulham on Saturday.”

Everton were criticised for their robust tackling on Theo Walcott in the first half, but Ramsey did not feel that David Moyes’s side were over the top.

“A few times we got past them and they did bring us down but I thought the referee did well, and showed a few yellow cards that were warranted. With Theo’s pace he is always going to go past people.

“We made a few mistakes in the first half but [in the] second half I thought we dominated, got into some good positions, but our final ball let us down.

“However, we didn’t lose and we’ve still got a lot of confidence. We looked quite solid. We’re looking forward to Fulham at the weekend.

“Teams will drop points. They have tough games against other teams who are in and around fourth place, , so we know we just have to keep our momentum going and win our games that remain.”

The Gunners can extend their lead over north London rivals Spurs to five points by winning at Craven Cottage, with Manchester City heading to White Hart Lane on Sunday. Spurs will still have a game in hand after that, but it is against Chelsea on May 8.

Ramsey, meanwhile, is thriving in central midfield and the 21-year-old Welshman believes that a run in the side in his natural position has allowed him to finish the season strongly.

“I’m really pleased with my own form. I’m working hard and putting in some good performances and the team is doing well as well so overall I am delighted,” said Ramsey, who has started the last four games alongside Mikel Arteta in central midfield and put in a man of the match display against Everton.

“It makes a big difference [to play in central midfield]. That’s my position and where I want to play and at the beginning of the season I was moving all over the pitch.

“I was playing left-wing, right-wing, right-back. Now I seem to have cemented my place in the last few months so I can’t complain.

“At the beginning of the season I was asked to do a job for the team and I am happy to do that. If the manager wants me to do that I am not going to say no.

“But now I’ve got my place back in the middle and I am happy with that and I am showing what I can do in the middle.”
