Bid for guided tour of the Gherkin in De Beauvoir auction next Friday
Lots up for grabs in auction to raise money for St Peter’s church crypt in De Beauvoir
A cheese making lesson, dinner at the House of Lords, and a tour of London skyscraper, The Gherkin, are some of the lots up for grabs in a De Beauvoir auction.
Joint organiser 30-year old George Borrie, who is offering his services teaching poker to the winning bidder, the auction will raise funds towards the 500,000 renovation of St Peter’s church crypt, in De Beauvoir Road.
Other items on offer include a week in a renovated farmhouse in Tuscany, a patchwork quilt and an Indian coat.
George who has lived in Culford Road all his life, is organising the fund-raiser under the guise of the De Beauvoir Underground (DBU), which he and his friends started as a way to get younger people linked in with the De Beauvoir community.

Other members of the DBU include Rosie Wesemann, manager of the Scolt Head pub in Culford Road and Harry Davies owns the De Beauvoir Deli on Southgate Road.
“Personally I am not a church-goer, but I definitely see the value of it as a community resource,” said George.

“If we can contribute to turning the crypt into an inclusive multi-purpose events venue, then it can only be a good thing, and I hope the DBU will go onto be about more than just the church crypt too in the long run - as the concept has so much potential for development.”
The auction will be held in St Peter’s Church next Friday (November 26).
Wine and cheese will be served from 7.30pm and the auction takes place from 8pm-10pm. Admission is free.
