More than 20 firefighters tackled a blaze in a roof conversion in Stoke Newington for about an hour yesterday (Thursday).

Four fire engines, from Stoke Newington and Holloway stations, rushed to the house in Fairholt Road, after they received multiple calls – some of which claimed there were people inside.

In fact, a man had already left the property before the fire crews arrived and was uninjured.

Smoke was billowing from the roof of the two-storey house, and although the fire was under control just before 6pm, half of the roof was damaged.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
