Staff and guests at Amazon's trendy London HQ in Shoreditch could soon be treated to the "occasional Champagne breakfast" if a booze licence is granted by Hackney Council.

The digital retail giants moved into Principal Place this year and BaxterStorey, the company that “provides the catering solution” both there and at the Holborn offices, wants permission to serve alcohol.

The application states that the booze will only be for employees, associated companies, agents, servants and invited guests.

The report states: “This licence is sought to facilitate client hospitality, conferences, fine dining, recognition events and similar in the restaurant, conference and meeting suites and café and roof garden.

“The early start for permitted hours is to provide for the occasional Champagne breakfast.”

Hackney’s environmental health officers are less than impressed and have objected to the application and has rejected on grounds of public nuisance, saying the smoking area could be too noisy for neighbours.

The application would also allow for the sale of booze until midnight seven days a week.
