Burger giant Byron wants to open a branch in Dalston but faces an uphill task convincing police and licensing bosses to give the go ahead.
The chain is eyeing up one of the empty units at the new Curve development near Dalston Kingsland station in Kingsland High Street.
But it falls in the Special Policy Area, designed to restrict new businesses selling alcohol.
Byron hit the headlines in July when dozens of its workers were rounded up in an immigration swoop.
Councillors will vote on the application on Thursday night.
