A charity which gives birthday cakes to youngsters who might not otherwise receive them celebrated a baking milestone last week, when its 99th, 100th and 101st cakes were given to triplets who turned six.

Odulcan, Kardelen and Omurcan Savaram-Gokmen were over the moon with their cake creations, which sported racing cars and a princess, and were presented to them during the school day at Randall Cremer Primary in Ormsby Street, Shoreditch.

Free Cakes for Kids Hackney, which has been going for 18 months, sees passionate volunteer bakers tailor-making each cake to the individual, with themes ranging from football, Peppa Pig to volcanoes.

Charity supporter, Tessa Lidstone, said: The triplets were totally overwhelmed by their cakes. Their mum was extremely grateful though and said what a difference it would make to their day.

“It’s small in the scale of things but the feedback we get is that the cakes really do make a difference.”

She continued: “The plan was to share two of the cakes with their classmates and take the other home to have with their family so as many people as possible got to enjoy the cakes and they got to feel special at school as well as at home.”
