A break-dancing doctor wants Hackney residents to suggest walls they believe need a lick of paint and a street art mural.

Lee Bofkin is not proposing anything illegal, but asking property owners to come forward and nominate shop shutters and unused walls for The Global Street Art Walls Project.

He would then link them up with a street artist who could brighten up their property.

Mr Bofkin, who gained a PhD at Cambridge in maths and evolution before pursuing a breakdancing career, has already carried out a similar project in neighbouring Tower Hamlets.

He believes it has been successful in brightening up grim areas.

“Well painted spaces are equivalent to love, art can impact a space for the benefit of all,” said Lee, who quit break-dancing after a knee injury.

He would like to involve Stik, who is responsible for the giant sized stick men across the borough, along with Phlegm, Nazir Tamboli and his many other contacts.

“I’m passionate about the curation of public spaces, and making sure things look good and cared for,” he said.

“It can be inspirational, it help brings people together, encourages conversation.

“A lot of artists will paint for free as it’s good promotion for them and it’s good fun.”
