A pumpkin-carving marathon is set for the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden this weekend.

Children and adults are invited to make their mark on the traditional Halloween vegetables on Saturday and Sunday afternoon from noon to 4pm, before hundreds of them are lit up for a lantern show Sunday night at 6pm.

Participants are asked for a donation to help cover the cost of the pumpkins.

The lantern show launches the annual “Festival of Light” at the garden in Dalston Lane, which runs in November and December.

Half-term holiday activities for children run from Tuesday until Friday from 2pm to 4pm, with themes including spooky pizzas, wild masks and Halloween houses. “Light Up Nights” run until 9pm every day, with hot drinks, spicy pumpkin soup and pizzas from the oven on sale – and blankets and hot water bottles on hand.
