A charity that supports hard-up people will be in Ridley Road market tomorrow hoping to sign up more users.
The Alexandra Rose Charity helps people afford healthy food by giving out vouchers at children’s centres, which can be used at the Dalston market as well as Hoxton Street Market.
It has been operating in Hackney since 2014 and in that time has supported more than 250 families with some £45,000 worth of vouchers redeemed across the borough’s markets.
A pregnant mum with two children who has been receiving Rose Vouchers for two years said: “Rose Vouchers have done wonders for me. They have really helped me to feed my family especially when my finances are low and in emergencies when I have no money to pay for food”.
The town hall also supports the scheme. Heath chief Cllr Feryal Demirci said: “The project is a great way of helping families to access a healthy diet while giving them an extra bit of financial security.”
A trader at Ridley Road said: “I am happy to be part of this project and it gives me pleasure to see the happy faces of mothers and their children when they buy fruit and veg from my stall and to know that they’re eating healthily.”
